Family Implementation of Positive Behavior Support for a Student with Autism

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and persistence of positive behavior support and the effects of family implementation based on functional assessment. For this purpose, one male student who has the problem behavior with autism, and is registered in middle school was investigated. The multiple probe baseline design was conducted to compare with three settings. The study was conducted as follows: antecedent and setting event intervention, teaching alternative behavior instruction, consequence intervention, support to improve the quality of life, and connection with local community. The results indicated that the problem behavior was decreased and alternative behavior was increased by the positive behavior support including family implementation. (1) during the baseline, the problem behavior was showed but there were some alternative behaviors; (2) as the intervention was started the problem behavior was reduced and the alternative behavior was increased; (3) after finishing the intervention, the problem behavior was decreased and the alternative was persisted by the effects of maintenance for one year.
